Subject: [W4FHU] IS 700 link
This is the web site you need for the IS 700 independent study that was
mentioned at the last club meeting. For those of you not there, this
course is required by FEMA (Homeland Security) for all volunteers and
paid emergency responders. This course must be completed before Sept.30,
2006 and Mike as EMA director needs a copy of the passing certificate.
This is a simple course on the National Incident Command System NIMS.
This is the system that is now being used as a standard for emergency
response. It basically goes thru the structure of command that will be
implemented in the event of an emergency response. It takes anywhere
from 3 - 7 hours depending on your focus and reading skills. It is
highly recommended that you print the final test before beginning the
course. The web based course is basic information that covers the test
material. The study guide gives you detail information for those that
need to know all t! here is to know. Follow this link:
www.training.fema.gov Once there in the first paragraph that comes up
you will see a link to the IS course list. Choosing this link will give
you a list of all courses available. You can take as many as you wish,
but please take the IS-700 first due to the approaching deadline. In
essence, if as an ARES/RACES member you will be responding in the event
of an emergency (natural or man-made) to help with windshield
assessment, shelter management, radio communications, etc. then you must
have this training in place. This is not a local requirement, but a
national requirement. For those that need assistance, please feel free
to call Mike 989-5674 or at night 989-5322 or call on the repeater and
we will assist all you can. Danny Farrell has informed us that he took
it this weekend and should hear in a week or so if he passed and I just
completed mine! tonight and hope to hear in a week.
73's to all.
